On Monday, October 7, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter joined country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood to kick-off the weeklong 36th Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project.
Over the course of this week, the former president and first lady will build in company with hundreds of other Habitat for Humanity volunteers to construct 21 brand new Habitat homes for local Nashvillians who may need a hand up. The nonprofit housing organization also plans to build an additional 12 new single-family homes and 26 townhomes by 2021. Funding raised through the 2019 Carter Work Project will serve a total of 59 Nashville families.
"I continue to be in awe of the humble determination that President and Mrs. Carter display through their service," said Johnathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International.
"Their work has inspired countless people to join Habitat in our mission to build a world where everyone has a safe, decent, and affordable place to live. All of us—from the families they're working alongside in Nashville, to the millions who have been inspired by their good works—owe President and Mrs. Carter our thanks."
About Habitat for Humanity:
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up, partner with Habitat for Humanity to build a place they can call home.
