Project Redesign is back with another fantastical Girls Night Out, this year having a Mamma Mia! theme.
Featuring an ABBA cover band, a silent auction, dinner, and drinks, Girls Night Out is sure to awaken inner Dancing Queens. It doesn’t get much better than blending glamour, music, and philanthropy for an unforgettable evening with a meaningful impact. The event will take place at Hillwood Country Club on March 6 at 5:30 p.m., and all proceeds will help Project Redesign continue to help those in need turn their houses into homes.
Project Redesign is a nonprofit dedicated to providing essential furniture to people and families who would otherwise be without for a small fee. The team redesigned more than 86 homes for those in need in 2024, as part of the organization’s mission: “[To] reuse donated furniture to redesign participants’ houses so that they can reclaim their lives and make a fresh start in their new home.”
In other words, the team hand-picks items and art to create warm, welcoming homes with no small details overlooked. The efforts don’t stop at homes, though. They have also worked on communal spaces in nonprofit centers and schools as well as donated essentials from air conditioners to mattresses.
Born of a volunteer job following Hurricane Katrina, some of the founders received the opportunity to furnish a Nashville apartment for an affected New Orleans family. They solicited friends, family, and the community for furniture and household items, and proved fruitful in their collections that resulted in a beautifully decorated home. In the years that followed, Karen Bell Moore, Allison Douglas, Suzanne Snyder, and Ellie Billington looked to recreate this experience with other nonprofits and have done just that since obtaining 501c3 status in 2011. Now, the nonprofit furnishes and decorates around eight houses or apartments per month.
“We have increased our nonprofit partners, which means we are helping more people in Nashville in a more diverse way,” says Karen Bell Moore, CEO and founding member. “Our work is reaching all corners of Nashville.”
Project Redesign works with Mending Hearts, Thistle Farms, NAHT, Uprise, Ella's House, Hananiah House, Healing House, The Oak Cottage, Inspiritus, The Branch, Renewal House, Metamorphosis, and NICE.
As the organization continues to grow, events like Girls Night Out play a vital role in sustaining its mission. The evening offers not only fun, but a meaningful way for the community to gather and support their life-changing work.
