Spoke & Weal consists of a specialized team of our pros who focus on either cut or color; and selected members provide keratin smoothing and extension services.
Specialization enables our skills to be refined in a way generalization might not. A team-based specialized salon is rare and we believe it sets our services a part.
MEET OUR EXPERT STYLIST: JON REYMAN
After completing a study abroad program in West Africa to round out his undergraduate education in Minneapolis, Jon was headed to law school. His girlfriend at the time was hairdressing and he would visit her at work occasionally. At one point she personally needed a shampoo and he jumped in to help her. The rest was history. He enrolled in the Aveda Institute, obtained his cosmetology license, and got to work in his new career. Now, the Dyson Global Ambassador and a fixture at leading Fashion Week shows from NYC to London to Paris, Jon is a celebrated master of the art. He lives in New York City with his Golden-doodle Charlie and cuts and styles for Spoke & Weal guests as well as fashion, editorial and corporate clients. He visits Nashville every 8-10 weeks.
“Dry hair tells no lies,” Jon says of his unique cutting techniques. “Mid-career — and after a ton of work as cutting was not as intuitive to me as some— my technical skills became quite refined. I began to question some of the cutting techniques I had learned and I saw from industry leaders,” he said. “I wanted precision and clarity that wet hair could not provide. Smooth dry hair responds to shears. There is no guess-ing on length, density, texture. I began to dry cut and the techniques are the foundational cutting for everyone at Spoke & Weal.
HAIR CUT TREND: Soft Bobs. While a razor-sharp blunt bob will always look chic, right now a soft-textured bob, or French bob, is having a moment. Softness can come by layering or by texturizing if you wish your hair to remain one length. It gives the hair romance and lightness. With or without fringe, this look is beautiful.— JON
MEET OUR EXPERT COLORIST: CHRISTINE THOMPSON
Destined for beauty from her teenage years, the first hair Christine Thompson colored was in the basement during the ’80s punk scene; her first industry gig was at the Chanel beauty counter in Los Angeles, sporting a shaved and bleached head a la Sinead O’Connor or Annie Lennox. From there, she apprenticed at top salons. She began building a celebrity clientele and a reputation as one of the worlds top hair color educators. Christine has been in hair color since its professional conception helping to develop the Aveda color line and consulting other global brands. From candy colors to classics to animal prints, Christine is a masterful color specialist and an inspiration to our teams. In her free time, she rides a custom Matchless motorcycle that she built with her husband, Bryan Thompson, a speedway racer and custom bike legend. Find Christine traveling to coach the teams at Spoke & Weal and service guests in every salon every three months.
HAIR COLOR TREND: Rich, one-color, brunette hair. One color does not mean no depth and movement. Premium hair color is reflective. We use the Aveda color line because it is the most customizable and the most reflective, based on our research. Even when using one all-over color, a brunette will shimmer and move in any lighting.— CHRISTINE
OUR PRICING
We charge a premium for our services and we work to be inclusive. A haircut with Jon is $800; custom color sessions with Christine $600 and more if the color is corrective. We are proud of decades of commitment and learning that has created value in our lives; we want each team member to grow and find longevity and prosperity in this career. While we celebrate our pricing, we also have community pricing for folks who may not afford our listed pricing. Our prices in salon start quite inclusively for the cities we’re in. Still, we would rather see you and deliver the goods than not see you. Hair is our passion. We want to provide exceptional services and solve problems.
