A practicing internist at the Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Dr. Derrick DeSilva Jr. has had a lifelong passion for healing since he was a child.
Traditionally trained in internal medicine, Dr. DeSilva specializes in anti-aging medicine, nutrients, and supplements with a mission to optimize patients’ wellness.
“Instead of sick medicine I like to do well medicine. It’s not about how many years you live, but how well and how productive those years really are,” says Dr. DeSilva. “I really look deeper into optimizing people’s health, not normalizing people’s health.”
An advocate for natural supplements, Dr. DeSilva values the ingredients, science, and technology of which they are comprised. A mission to produce high quality products at affordable prices led him to create Common Sense Supplements. A leader in the realm of natural supplements, he formulated the majority of the Common Sense Supplements products himself and has used them in his own practice for more than 20 years. As part of the teaching faculty at JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey, Dr. DeSilva lectures on various topics in medicine and is a member of associations such as the American Medical Association and The Society of Internal Medicine, in addition to serving as chairman of Age Management Medicine Conference and past president of the American Nutraceutical Association. He spreads his message to even larger audiences through his radio talk show Ask the Doctor, his television show To Your Health, and his books Coping with Lyme Disease and Ask the Doctor. Now he is sharing his approach to wellness with Nashvillians on August 10 at 5:30 p.m. at Club House Abbottsford Green Hills.
In a presentation and Q&A alongside Jackie Rogers, founder and CEO of House of Hilt Skincare and Deborah Parker, founder of Belcourt Aesthetics, the trio will share their tips for a lifetime of wellness. RSVP to the event at Belcourt’s website below.
“It’s going to be healing yourself from the outside, on the inside, and making yourself look beautiful and more vibrant,” Dr. DeSilva says. “I like to simplify things, and I hope that people leave with a simple how-to message on how to improve the quality of their life. That’s what they need to come for is simple messages on how to improve energy, brain health, heart health, libido, sleep—these are the things I want to get through.”
Rogers further echoes the importance of simplicity and clean products with her skincare line House of Hilt. The luxury botanical skincare line is plant-based, toxin free, and filler free. And the motto is simple: cleanse, exfoliate, and hydrate with clean beauty products.
“Your skin being the largest organ, what you’re putting on your skin is critical. We’re bombarded with things on a regular basis between cell phones and just pollution and debris in the air, why would we knowingly put something toxic on our skin?” says Rogers. “There’s a lot of marketing out there that makes you think it’s clean but when you start label reading you realize maybe it’s not as clean as you thought. That’s my goal is to just get people to think differently.”
Above all else, Rogers and Dr. DeSilva hope to help as many people as they can to enhance their life by diving into the importance of wellness.
