Beauty lovers gathered in 12 South on July 15 for a special opportunity to learn directly from one of the industry's most influential figures. Legendary makeup artist Bobbi Brown visited Nashville's Jones Road Beauty store to host an exclusive master class, offering attendees insider beauty tips, product education, and a glimpse at upcoming launches from her fast-growing clean beauty brand.
Throughout the morning, Brown demonstrated her signature approach to beauty, emphasizing makeup that enhances rather than conceals.
"I like makeup that evens out your skin and makes you look bright," Brown told attendees.
A recurring theme throughout the class was understanding how products are intended to work. Brown spent time discussing Jones Road's popular concealer and neutralizer products, explaining that many people misuse concealer by applying it too broadly.
"The concealer should be one shade lighter," she explained. "You cannot put it all over your face. It will actually make your dark circles look darker."
Brown described the brand's Neutralizer as "the underwear of your face," emphasizing its importance as a foundational step for color correction before concealer application.
When it came to tools, Brown kept things simple. Rather than relying on brushes or sponges, she shared that her preferred makeup applicator is something everyone already has.
"My finger is my favorite way to blend," she said.
Attendees also received practical advice for tackling one of the most common beauty concerns: creasing under the eyes. According to Brown, striking the right balance with skincare is key.
"Too much eye cream will make the product smear off," she explained. "You need the right amount. Just a touch of eye cream. If you use too much, makeup will slip. If you don't use enough and your skin is dry, you'll see cracking."
Beyond application techniques, Brown also gave guests a look ahead at what's next for Jones Road Beauty. She revealed that the brand will launch a new fuller-coverage pot concealer in September. In August, Jones Road will introduce a new mascara called The Minimalist. The brand's current mascara will be renamed The Statement, while The Minimalist will also be available in a rich brown shade that Brown described as a "cocoa brown" color.
Brown also spoke about the decision to expand Jones Road's retail footprint to Nashville.
"When we decide where to open stores, we look at where our customers are," Brown said. "And I look for cool places."
She shared that the inspiration behind the brand's name came unexpectedly during her non-compete period following the sale of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.
"I couldn't crowdsource names," she recalled. "I was driving to the Hamptons, saw Jones Road, and loved it."
As the master class wrapped up, attendees left with more than just product recommendations. Brown's enduring philosophy, that makeup should feel simple, approachable, and authentic, was evident throughout the morning, proving why her influence continues to shape the beauty industry decades after she first launched her namesake brand.
The event offered Nashville beauty enthusiasts a rare chance to hear directly from the makeup icon while celebrating the continued growth of Jones Road Beauty in Music City.
