I love my job; I really do.
I am grateful that I get to do a lot of cool things with the magazine, and this month is one of the most meaningful parts of the job for me: our annual Women in Business feature. As you probably know, we take nominations from our readers and compile a list of inspiring women. These ladies include entrepreneurs, civic and business leaders, and powerful women from all walks of life. This year’s list is particularly interesting and impressive. Lucky for me, we host a photoshoot at our office, where I get the opportunity to meet the women. Candidly, I usually know most of the women on the list, but this year, I had the opportunity to meet several women I had not met. I find their stories so interesting. I got the opportunity to ask them all a question for social media, which you’ll see soon. I loved hearing them talk about why they do what they do, or how they got started. Every single one has an interesting story.
You’ll get to hear more from them when we host our Women in Business event August 28 at the Conrad Nashville. It is always one of the best events of the year with plenty of time to network and meet the ladies in the story. We’ll host a panel discussion, too.
I can tell you we have a very special guest at the event this year—the one and only Tanya Tucker. Her career spans more than four decades of country music hits, and she just opened her new Tanya Tucker’s Tequila Cantina downtown on the second floor of Nudie’s Honky Tonk. I know she has life lessons to share with us. You can hear more from her at the event on August 28!

August is always one of my favorite magazines of the year to put together because it’s our annual Women in Business issue!
Each year, we bring you the stories of some of Nashville’s most extraordinary women. Getting to hear their stories and share them with our readers is one of the most gratifying and inspiring things about this job, and I am appreciative of every woman who took time out of their busy schedules to be part of this feature. You’ll get to learn even more about these inspiring women, and have some invaluable networking time, at our Women in Business event on August 28 at Conrad Nashville — so mark your calendar!
I also had the pleasure of chatting with our iconic cover star, the one and only Tanya Tucker. I can honestly tell you she is everything you want her to be and more. Obviously, she’s hilarious — she had me laughing harder than I’ve ever laughed during an interview — but she is also incredibly compassionate, wise, and insightful. With more than 50 years in the industry, she has certainly learned quite a bit, and her story is nothing short of inspiring. She shared with us how she built her decade-spanning career, milestone moments, the opening of Tanya Tucker’s Tequila Cantina on the second floor of Nudie’s Honky Tonk, and her advice for others all in true, candid Tanya fashion.
As always, we’re also bringing you some can’t-miss Music City happenings this month, must-try restaurants, and new music. And because rooftop bars are an integral part of every Nashville summer, we’ve got you covered with some of our favorites in town for ice-cold drinks and unbeatable views.
If you’re looking to venture outside of the city for one last summer trip, be sure to check out our travel feature on the beautiful JW Marriott Clearwater Beach Resort & Spa. I had the enviable task of experiencing all the beauty of the hotel and Florida’s Clearwater Beach firsthand, and it is truly the perfect beachfront getaway to round out the summer. With powdery white sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters, it’s a must-add destination to your summer bucket list.
Summer isn’t over yet! So, get out there and experience all the incredible people and places that make our city so special.
