Premiere of Metro Human Relations Commission's documentary, Through Their Words: How Voices Became Policy and Policy Became Progress
Celebrate 60 years of the Metro Human Relations Commission and its work advocating for the unheard voices of Tennessee by joining us for the debut of MHRC’s documentary, Through Their Words: How Voices Became Policy and Policy Became Progress.
Get ready to embark on a narrative journey exploring the Metro Human Relations Commission’s roots, its profound impact on civil rights and its vision for the future. Hear interviews with key figures, see archival material and gain insights from contemporary perspectives, all highlighting MHRC’s contributions to civil rights and social justice in Nashville.
By intertwining historic milestones with current initiatives and future aspirations, the documentary seeks not only to honor past achievements but to inspire continued advocacy and action.
Following the documentary, MHRC executive director Davie Tucker, Jr., will moderate a panel discussion and Q&A with Dr. Sheila Peters, psychology professor at Fisk University, and Dr. Learotha Williams, Jr., African American and Public History professor at Tennessee State University.
MHRC is hosting the event as part of its Humans Over Hate initiative and in partnership with 353 Media Group and Millions of Conversations.
This documentary premiere event is free to the public, but limited seats are available in the theater. Please RSVP for seats at https://events.humanitix.com/juneteenth.
NMAAM will offer free admission to the museum all day for its Juneteenth Community Day.
