Tyvek + David Nance Group
Tyvek:
Throughout perpetual, necessary shifting, Detroit's Tyvek have remained a singular force. The group was formed somewhere in the mid-aughts by songwriter, vocalist, guitarist, and sole consistent band member Kevin Boyer, who enlisted various friends to cultivate a raw, rudimentary punk sound that manages to get back to basics while at the same time presenting abstract perspectives and weird concepts not normally explored by your everyday garage band. There have been mutations over the years as the band toured regularly and released a run of solid albums with labels like Siltbreeze and In The Red, but with every reformation, Tyvek still did'nt sound quite like anyone else. Their most recent recording, the self-released Changing Patterns of Protective Coating EP (2019), mixes the space and repetition of 1970s Krautrock with the melodic short sharp shock of the original new wave. Tyvek's current line-up of all-stars guarantee an intense live show: Shelley Salant (Shells, XV), Alex Glendening (Deadbeat Beat), Fred Thomas (Idle Ray), and Emily Roll (XV) channel the high-energy rock'n'roll of Detroit's past while side-stepping the cliches to push forward into an uncharted future.
David Nance Group:
David Nance is a “Rock” musician.
A Grand Island Nebraska native who now calls Omaha home. Nance began his musical career at a young age as a hired gun for a local rock group and only a few years later was a jaded garage rock turkey. Life went on. Jobs were worked. Bruises healed.
Years later, music started flowing again. The river was going full blast. With a voice honed through countless MidWest bum PA’s and a LOVE/HATE guitar that sounds equal parts Alec Bathgate and Neil Young, Nance began recording his own music with no intentions of any of it being heard by anyone outside of close friends. Attention built at a slow, but steady, pace and somehow led to Nance releasing 4 full length albums over the past 6 years (not to mention numerous other releases including tapes, singles, CD-R’s and full cover albums of the Stones and Lou Reed etc. etc.)
Visceral and unhinged, poetic and idiotic, Nance’s work is built upon contradiction. Semi-master of the midwest raga and full blown expert of the avant-bar…rock. His sound is like a volcano hole- allowing necessary eruptions that can either fossilize time or destroy the whole foundation of whatever is happening at that moment. Entertainment in its purest sense.
Nance’s records have come out on such esteemed labels as Trouble In Mind, Bada Bing!, Third Man, Richie, Petty Bunco and Grapefruit. Putting in shows all over the United States, Europe and Australia and opening for such acts as Jack White and Mdou Moctar. This is in no small part due to critical acclaim from VICE, NPR and STEREOGUM among many others.
