Songwriter Round: Tribute to Wayland Holyfield
Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Wayland Holyfield wrote hits including Billy Dean’s “Only Here for a Little While,” Anne Murray’s “Could I Have This Dance,” Johnny Russell’s “Rednecks, White Socks, and Blue Ribbon Beer” and Country Music Hall of Fame member Don Williams’ “Some Broken Hearts Never Mend,” “Til the Rivers All Run Dry” and “You’re My Best Friend.” His songs were also recorded by Crystal Gayle, Mickey Gilley, T. G. Sheppard, Country Music Hall of Fame members Ronnie Milsap, Charley Pride, George Strait and more. Holyfield was preparing to speak and perform at the museum earlier this year as part of the museum’s Poets and Prophets series when he died on May 6 at the age of 82. During this in-the-round tribute, fellow Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame members Pat Alger, Mike Reid and Thom Schuyler will perform some of Holyfield’s hits.
