Following its completely sold-out February debut, New Vaudeville—Nashville's Vintage Variety Show—returns to The Bowery Vault on Wednesday, May 28th with an extraordinary lineup of performers spanning multiple entertainment disciplines.
Founded by songwriter and impresario Jay Bragg, whose own grandparents performed in 1930s vaudeville circuits, New Vaudeville honors the golden age of American variety entertainment while infusing it with contemporary flair. The production has quickly become known for breaking down the fourth wall between audience and performers, creating an immersive experience unlike anything else in Nashville's entertainment landscape.
"What we've created is more than just a show—it's a place where audiences can escape into a magical world where New Orleans spirit meets Broadway dazzle," says Bragg, who performs as "King Kazoo," the charismatic Mayor of New Vaudeville. "The response to our first show was overwhelming, with people telling us this is exactly what Nashville has been missing."
The May 28th performance features a spectacular cast of variety artists, including:
La Reine The Thrill - A world-renowned sword swallower whose death-defying acts have astonished audiences globally
Wendy Burns - Jazz vocalist and ukulele virtuoso bringing elegant musicality and vintage charm
Eco Bits & Bots - Also known as "The Village Idiot," this multi-talented performer combines juggling, balancing feats, and physical comedy
The production is anchored by King Kazoo & His New Vaudevillians, providing musical accompaniment that draws from New Orleans street bands, jug band traditions, and dixieland influences.
What distinguishes New Vaudeville from conventional concerts is its commitment to audience participation. February's debut featured all attendees joining the band for a grand finale, playing kazoos distributed during the show, creating a joyful communal experience that many called "the highlight of their year."
The success signals a revival of interest in variety entertainment, with New Vaudeville planning a gradual expansion to larger venues and a special Christmas production later this year.
Tickets for the May 28th performance at The Bowery Vault are available now. Given February's sellout, advance purchase is strongly encouraged.
