The Surfaris
Legendary surf music band The Surfaris, who wrote and recorded the iconic instrumental “Wipe Out,” will perform at the City Winery Nashville on April 10.
More than sixty years after its release, "Wipe Out" is still one of the most recognizable drum intros in music history and helped launch the surf-rock movement that influenced generations of rock drummers.
From the beaches of Southern California to international stardom, The Surfaris became a defining force of early 1960s surf music with their iconic hit “Wipe Out.” Formed by a group of teenage musicians in Glendora, California, the band captured lightning in a bottle with its explosive energy, unforgettable drum break, and unmistakable swagger.
Led by original founding member, Bob Berryhill, and joined by wife Gene, and sons Deven and Joel, The Surfaris continues to perform the music that launched a movement of style change in cars, clothes, and dance—notably the Surfers Stomp.
Attendees can expect the classic surf rock sound that helped define a generation, paired with stories from the band’s remarkable rise during the golden age of American rock and roll.
