A visually striking choreopoem that blends spoken word and movement, Kintsugi: Art of Scars directly confronts actions of assault and abuse experienced by so many and moves to a place of healing. Poet and performer Cameron L. Mitchell spearheads this bold new work in collaboration with choreographer and dancer Thea Jones and a company of four vibrant women who together tell meaningful stories of living with difficult memories, finding a voice, and discovering the beauty amidst the emotional scars. Drawing inspiration from the centuries-old Japanese art of mending broken pottery by highlighting the fractures, this transformative performance piece aims to create a beautiful new memory from pieces that appeared to be broken.
Presented as part of Kindling Arts Festival 2026: UTOPIAS, July 23-26.
