“I've always been a traditional country music fan,” Grand said. “I grew up in a household where my mom and dad played Conway Twitty, Buck Owens, Johnny Cash and Charley Pride, so that’s in my bones. When I started to develop as a singer and a songwriter, those were my influences.”
Grand's biggest musical influence is and always has been Conway Twitty. So much so that he dedicated his 2019 touring season to performing more than 30 shows across Canada called One Night With Conway. “I approached a couple of booking agencies about it and I couldn’t get anyone to share my vision,” he said. "So I took it upon myself to rent a theater; I paid for the rental, booked it, sold my tickets and, you know what -- it sold out! It was a great success and pretty soon word got around. I booked another and another, and people started calling me wanting to book the show.”
Gil Grand is an eight-time Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) nominee and CCMA “Male Vocalist of the Year” and “Record Producer of the Year” winner. Grand dove head first onto the country music scene in 1998 when he signed with Sony's Monument Records. His debut album, Famous First Words, produced his first Number One single and helped him receive three 1999 Canadian Country Music Association Award nominations, including 'Male Vocalist of the Year,' 'Album of the Year' and 'Wrangler Rising Star.' After more than a decade of success in Canada, Grand returned state-side to run his co-owned publishing company, Grand & Gee Music, that soon captured SESAC’s Song of the Year award for his participation as a publisher on Chris Young’s No. 1 hit “Tomorrow” and a GRAMMY® for “God And My Girlfriends” recorded by Reba McEntire.
The Grand Tour: A Night of Classic Country Music will feature the signature hits of George Jones, Johnny Cash, Ray Price, Charlie Rich, Glen Campbell and many more. The 90-minute show is backed by award-winning musicians, complete with classic country wardrobe, and transports the audience to a time when classic country music ruled the airwaves.
“There’s definitely a demographic that still loves this kind of music,” he said. “Country music has changed, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t continue to enjoy the legends and celebrate their music. It's too good not to!”
