Children enjoying the Adventure Science Center
The Center for Courageous Kids (CCK), a not-for-profit medical camp dedicated to empowering children with disabilities or lifelong illnesses, has partnered with Adventure Science Center to host Be Courageous Nashville, a community event designed for families of children with medical conditions and special needs.
The event will take place Sunday, May 17 from 1–4 p.m. at Adventure Science Center, bringing the joy and connection of CCK’s camp programs to Nashville-area families through an afternoon of accessible play and hands-on learning. The first 300 registered families will receive free admission.
For children with disabilities and lifelong illnesses, opportunities to simply play, explore and connect can be rare. CCK changes that. About an hour north of Nashville, CCK is a 168-acre camp in Scottsville, Kentucky, offering a free, supportive space for children with disabilities and lifelong illnesses and their families to experience joy, normalcy and adventure in a medically safe environment. The camp opened in 2008 and has welcomed more than 45,000 campers from 46 states and 13 countries, with more than 100 medical diagnoses.
Be Courageous Nashville is the first stop on a multi-city community engagement tour for CCK, designed to provide a space for CCK families to connect with their friends closer to home, to introduce more families to CCK’s mission and programs and to celebrate inclusive spaces for children of all abilities.
Guests will have the opportunity to explore Adventure Science Center exhibits while connecting with other families navigating similar medical journeys. The event also introduces new families to CCK’s year-round programs and provides alumni campers and families an opportunity to reconnect.
“Adventure Science Center is an ideal partner for this event,” said Darren Dannelly, President and CEO of The Center for Courageous Kids. “Their commitment to sensory-friendly experiences, mobility resources and inclusive learning environments make it possible for all children to explore, learn and play together.”
Together, CCK and the Adventure Science Center are creating a welcoming, mission-aligned experience that highlights the importance of accessible spaces for all families, ensuring children with diverse needs can fully participate in enriching educational experiences without encountering traditional barriers.
Families in the Nashville area who have a child with a disability or lifelong illness are encouraged to attend. Registration is required, and space is limited. More information is available at https://www.courageouskids.org/events/becourageous
