55 Years to the Day: Carpenters Legacy Celebrates Historic Nashville Concert and The Story Behind “Top of the World”

On November 13, 2026—exactly 55 years after the Carpenters performed at Nashville Municipal Auditorium—Carpenters Legacy: Direct from Las Vegas will take the stage at Harken Hall. That original 1971 visit to Nashville also helped inspire Richard Carpenter and lyricist John Bettis to create “Top of the World,” making this year’s performance a remarkable full-circle celebration of the Carpenters’ connection to Music City.

Starring Sally Olson as Karen Carpenter and Ned Mills as Richard Carpenter, Carpenters Legacy brings the sound, look and feel of the Carpenters’ 1970s concerts back to the stage. The award-winning Las Vegas production show features beloved classics including “We’ve Only Just Begun,” “Yesterday Once More,” “Superstar,” “Close to You,” and many more—along with Karen’s famous drum solo and Richard’s dazzling classical piano feature.

This is more than a concert of Carpenters songs. It is a chance to experience the music as audiences did in the 1970s—from the vocals and arrangements to the costumes, staging and unmistakable chemistry of one of the most beloved musical duos of all time. Carpenters Legacy brings the unmistakable sound, look and feel of Karen and Richard Carpenter’s legendary 1970s concerts back to the stage in a stunningly authentic live recreation.

Carpenters Legacy maintains a residency at the V Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and has played to sold-out audiences at theaters, performing arts centers and casinos across the country.

The production was selected as featured entertainment for both the Carpenters 50th and 55th Anniversary Celebrations, is a seven-time Best of Las Vegas winner and a two-time TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award recipient. In 2025, Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley proclaimed September 5 “Carpenters Legacy Day.”

For anyone who loved The Carpenters—or wishes they could have seen them live—this is the next best thing to being there.
