Five-time GRAMMY® Award nominated country superstar Kelsea Ballerini has partnered with Nashville fragrance house Ranger Station to release the “Burn the Baggage Candle (feat. Kelsea Ballerini)” on October 15. Inspired by “Baggage,” the third track on her 2024 album Patterns, the candle embodies the emotional journey of heartbreak, healing and moving forward, and its debut comes just ahead of the release of the Patterns Deluxe Art Book + CD and a 2-LP zoetrope vinyl dropping October 24.
The $45, 8-ounce candle will be offered exclusively through Ranger Station’s online storefront, Ranger Station’s Nashville and New York stores, and select fashion retailer REVOLVE. Ten percent of net proceeds will benefit Porter’s Call, a nonprofit that provides mental health resources to recording artists and their families.
“Anyone that knows me knows that wherever I am – bus, hotel, or home – I’m going to have enough candles lit to be a fire hazard, and I’ve been a Ranger Station diehard for years. To me, scent is such a powerful sense that can make you feel nostalgic or peaceful, highlight your favorite season or holiday, or help invigorate new ideas or beginnings. ‘Burn the Baggage’ is my favorite kind of fragrance, a bit of a grounded warm amber and a bit of a comfortable light iris. We wanted to tell the story of the journey of the duality of hurting and healing, and as you burn the candle I hope it keeps you company on whatever journey you’re on,” said Kelsea Ballerini.
Crafted to reflect the stages of healing from heartbreak, the candle features fragrance notes of Tennessee Iris, Orris and Sandalwood, creating a violet-like, woodsy, and slightly creamy aroma. Its vessel includes a playful “meter of healing” graphic that tracks the journey from “examining patterns" to “it is what it is, okay?” to “burning the baggage.” Each stage reflects another step forward, with melted wax symbolizing baggage left behind. Handmade in Nashville using the highest quality fragrance and essential oils, each candle is hand-poured into a cocktail glass and paired with a cocktail recipe—a Ranger Station signature—giving it a second life once the wax is gone. This candle comes with a recipe for ‘I Rode Off Into the Tequila Sunset,’ a riff on the classic cocktail that playfully nods to lyrics from Ballerini’s “First Rodeo.”
The candle launch arrives alongside the expanded release of Patterns, Ballerini’s critically acclaimed fifth studio album. Originally released in fall 2024, Patterns debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Albums Chart and No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Ballerini created the project with an all-woman team—co-producing and co-writing with Alysa Vanderheym, and also working with songwriters Jessie Jo Dillon, Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Hillary Lindsey—and features Grammy “Best New Artist” nominee Noah Kahan on the ACM, CMA and Grammy-nominated single “Cowboys Cry Too.” To celebrate
the album’s success, Ballerini is releasing two limited deluxe editions: an art book + CD with full lyrics, behind-the-scenes photography, and more than 10 hidden “patterns” woven throughout, and a 2-LP zoetrope vinyl with four animated sides and five tracks appearing on vinyl for the first time.
“Every perfume has a style, and florals usually aren’t mine. Part of the reason I started Ranger Station was because there were so many overly floral scents and I wanted something different. Even still, florals kept haunting me and I always wanted to approach them in a way that didn’t feel too floral. Kelsea gave me the perfect opportunity to do so. From the beginning, she wanted to tell a story of two things: heartbreak and growth. Burning the baggage and coming out stronger on the other side. I knew this was my chance to lean into blending a floral with earthy, woodsy amber notes to capture those dual experiences,” said Steve Soderholm, Ranger Station founder and perfumer. “Tennessee Iris, the state flower, has long been a favorite of mine because it’s the floral for people who don’t usually like florals. You can pull oil from the flower and the root (orris butter), which allowed me to create a floral scent that was equally earthy. I love the dichotomy it represents – heartbreak and new beginnings. We’ve all been there in one form or another and it shapes who we are. I think people will connect with this scent in their own way, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with the world.”
The “Burn the Baggage Candle (feat. Kelsea Ballerini)” is part of Ranger Station’s features. program, a series of artist collaborations pairing scent with music to create immersive olfactory experiences. Since debuting the program in 2023 with Noah Kahan’s Stick Season candle—which sold out in 24 hours—the program has included collaborations with Ernest, Marcus King, NEEDTOBREATHE, The Band Camino, Colony House, and Waylon Jennings. With this release, Kelsea Ballerini becomes the ninth artist to join the series—and the first female collaborator.
