Jason Aldean will release three new songs on Friday, Jan. 9, including the highly anticipated “Easier Gone,” a duet with his wife, Brittany, that fans have been waiting to hear for years.
“Britt and I have been wanting to do something together for a while, but it’s like with anything, I just think it has to be the right song,” Aldean says. “It has to be the right timing.”
Friday’s release also includes the focus track “Her Favorite Color” and “What’s a Little Heartache,” marking the clearest signal yet of where his next chapter is headed. Aldean will release Songs About Us, his 20-track album, on April 24, a project he has described as his most deliberate and wide-ranging to date.
Fans will get an early, in-person look at this new era on Jan. 20, when Jason Aldean headlines Nashville Lifestyles Music in the City at Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Rooftop Bar. Tickets are on sale now. While the set list remains under wraps, “Easier Gone” stands at the center of Friday’s three-song release — musically and personally.
Co-written by Charles Kelley, the song carries a melodic sensibility that subtly nods to Lady A while staying within Aldean’s country-rock lane.
Aldean says “Easier Gone” connected immediately. He also believes Kelley could sing the phone book and still command attention. Aldean didn’t rush the duet and surprised his wife with an invitation to sing it with him in the recording studio.
“She started to get nervous and sweaty,” Aldean says. “It was weird because she’s never been to the studio or tried to cut a record or anything like that. The first day was her learning how it all goes. Then she went back in, knew what to expect, and just killed it.”
For Aldean, that’s the point. “I’m not going to put her in a position where it’s not good,” he says. “I told her, ‘If I tell you it’s good, you can trust me.’ And it turned out amazing. I’m excited for people to hear it.”
