DJ Grant Fisher has taken the Nashville EDM scene by storm.
After debuting his own singles featuring himself on vocals and playing other national festivals like Hangout Fest earlier this summer, Fisher is now playing Blended Festival alongside DJ Sickick and The Chainsmokers. Soon, he will be the opening DJ for Nelly when he performs in Las Vegas this month. Get to know the Nashville DJ below:
Tell us a little bit about yourself! How did you get into the industry?
I was born and raised in Yukon, Oklahoma (the home of Garth Brooks) and was around a ton of country music growing up. I always liked music and singing and I knew that I wanted to pursue a musical career in some way, shape, or form. In college, I studied all kinds of music, including classical. After college I moved to Nashville and began my music career singing for labels, writing with huge song writers and singing in many of Nashville’s iconic venues. It wasn’t until I went to my first music festival, (Hangout Music Festival) where I was exposed to electronic music. That day I went home and immediately bought myself a good computer and a DJ controller. Due to my music background, mixing beats came naturally and so I have been doing it ever since. Electronic music has become my passion. This year I had the opportunity to play the same festival where I was first introduced to electronic music, which was an incredible experience.
What are you most looking forward to while being a DJ at Blended Festival?
There are so many things that I love about playing festivals: the production, the lights, the sound... it is all a total rush. I also love performing for as many people as possible. Since I play in many local spots and have an amazing local following, I’m really excited to have the opportunity to play for people who normally do not hear my music and will travel to Nashville to hear the best of the best in electronic music. Additionally, I’m looking forward to being showcased as an artist and not just a club DJ.
How will you decide your lineup for Blended Festival and prepare for this gig?
My Nashville following is used to seeing me play an open format, top 40, and popular music. For Blended Festival, I plan on giving the audience a different musical experience than I’ve ever played for them before. I’m working on remixes and edits that nobody has heard me perform. I am also excited to be able to add my own songs that I recently debuted. My new music has been getting a lot of attention and I’m excited to be able to showcase it at a festival in my hometown.
You’re the opening DJ for Nelly when he performs in Las Vegas this month. Tell us about that!
It’s surreal to be able to perform on the same stage as Nelly and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m so thankful to his team for letting me “do what I do” to open for him. We are connected through the same talent agency. This will be my very first performance in Vegas, and opening for an icon like Nelly is a dream come true. I hope to be able to continue to work with acts such as him in the future.
