March is Women's History Month, a time to recognize and honor influential women who have made and continue to make an impact on society each and every day.
To celebrate, we caught up with esteemed singer/songwriter and Sixpence None The Richer frontwoman Leigh Nash to talk about the women who have been the most influential in both her life and career.
In her recently released single recorded with GRAMMY-nominated Ruby Amanfu, Nash is inspired by the powerful words of late Congressman John Lewis and examines social justice and racial tensions with both honesty and vulnerability.
We asked Leigh to share with Nashville Lifestyles the women she believes are creating 'Good Trouble' in society today and those she finds to be the most inspirational. From inaugural poet Amanda Gorman to her duet partner Ruby Amanfu, these prominent female figures have been a light for Nash through their words, actions, and journeys.
Semler (Grace Baldridge)
I’ve known Grace since she was a little girl. She’s grown up to be a strong and brave woman. Putting out a record aiming for the Christian Music Industry as an openly gay woman and aiming to be heard by an industry that does not generally embrace much is incredible. I love the music—maybe not all the language on the record (age gap, I guess) but I am so proud of her.
Amanda Gorman
The beautiful poet laureate for the inauguration of Joe Biden. So many were struck by her bold and beautiful words that day. I have a rendering of her beautiful hands during her speaking, hanging on my wall. It reminds me every day to be strong and creative and to not back down in the face of struggles.
Tabitha Brown
She is an Instagram Wonder Woman. She kept my spirits up so many days when I needed a voice of encouragement. Whether it’s giving us pep talks or showing us how to make insanely healthy vegan recipes, she keeps me laughing and inspires me to get up, keep moving, and do good in the world.
Ruby Amanfu
Not only was she my duet partner on "Good Trouble," but she also helped write it. Her verse, so stunning, so heartbreakingly beautiful, singing her truth will forever inspire me. She speaks her truth every day and has already taught me so much as we have become friends. She’s an inspiration.
Kamala Harris
I am so proud and thankful to see a woman of color in office as our Vice President of the United States. All the years before, everything that has strengthened her and brought her to this place, I am so thankful for. I believe she is good and trustworthy. I am greatly inspired by her journey.
