Owned and operated by Annie Mai, the boutique tea shop offers a wide selection of bubble/boba teas including fruit tea, steeped tea, unique milk tea, and even blended options that make for great desserts.
Crafted with just a few ingredients, some of which you may already have stocked in your pantry, boba tea could not be easier to recreate in your own kitchen. Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons of your favorite loose-leaf tea (black or jasmine works best)
- 3 tablespoons of non-dairy creamer such as Coffee-Mate (add more or less depending on desired creaminess)
- 3 tablespoons of cane sugar (add more or less depending on desired sweetness)
- 300ml of hot water
- 1 ½ cups of ice
- Instant boba pearls (can be found at Asian supermarkets or on Amazon)
- Fat straws (can be found at Asian supermarkets or on Amazon)
Directions:
- Prepare the tea: Start by steeping 3 heaping tablespoons of black or jasmine tea in 300ml of hot water for 5 minutes. For stronger tea flavor, steep for an additional 5 minutes. Strain the steeped tea from the leaves and pour it into a cocktail shaker cup.
- Prepare the base: Add 3 tablespoons of non-dairy creamer into the stepped tea and stir until dissolved. Add 3 tablespoons of cane sugar and stir until dissolved. Shake well for 30 seconds.
- Prepare the boba (optional): Bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil. Slowly add 1 cup of instant boba pearls into the boiling water and constantly stir for 5 minutes or until the boba floats to the top. Cook for another 5 minutes or until pearls are at your desired softness. Turn off the heat and rinse with cold water through a colander. Place the cooked boba into a bowl and soak in simple syrup for 5 minutes before serving.
- Assemble the drink: Scoop about 5 tablespoons of cooked boba into a serving cup. Add 1 cup of ice then pour the prepared shaken base to the top of the cup and enjoy.
