Burger Dandy, a retro burger and milkshake-centric concept from local restaurant company, A. Marshall Hospitality, originally opened in February 2021 as a virtual concept with pickup and delivery options only. Thanks to its success and the demand for those dandy burgers, the concept has transitioned into a bricks-and-mortar spot serving up a variety of fast favorites.
The diner gives off a new-meets-nostalgia vibe with its turquoise blue walls and eclectic sputnik lighting. Black and white movies playing on the TVs blend into the playful décor, while bamboo wainscoting and mid-mod wooden accents make this new addition to Franklin’s dining scene swankier than a typical malt shop, but still an unpretentious joint serving a no-frills menu.
Order at the counter, grab an Etch A Sketch to entertain yourself while you wait, and take a seat at one of several tables in the dining room. When the weather allows, use the to-go walk-up window, or make your way through the open-air garage doors and enjoy the patio.
The menu is approachable and features a mix of popular classics like the Just Dandy, a Smashburger-style burger topped with American cheese, Coca-Cola onions, and Burger Dandy’s signature burger sauce. Make it a double with a Big Dandy or opt for the veg-friendly Garden Burger made with a black bean and corn patty and finished off with cucumbers, mixed greens, pickled onions, and creamy herbed dressing. If you’re looking for a handheld sandwich but a burger isn’t cutting it, try the Chicken Sandwich, a fried chicken breast, topped with dill pickles, and mayo; or choose the Slaw Dog made with a quarter pound all-beef dog, house chili, and house slaw. And we’ll let you in on a little secret: Ask about the hidden menu which includes rotating options like the Triple Dandy and Chili Cheeseburger. There are even kid-friendly menu options for the young—or young at heart—in your party.
But what’s a burger without its sides? Choose from Burger Dandy’s crinkle-cut fries, cheese fries, or chili cheese fries. Wash it down with a glass bottle Coke or an old-fashioned milkshake. For those 21 and older, there are local and import beers, wine, and boozy milkshakes on the menu. Spiked shake flavors include Birthday Cake; Bailey’s Oreo; and Bourbon Chocolate, a decadent combination of Dutch chocolate syrup, bourbon, brown sugar, and Bailey’s Irish cream. Looking for a more traditional treat? Burger Dandy’s desserts include homemade cherry, apple, or chocolate fried pies served with a choice of whipped cream or ice cream. The perfect way to cap off a perfect patty. (96 East Main St., Franklin, 615-504-7935; burgerdandy.com)
