Jami-lyn Fehr is all about style.
Founder and creative director of the luxury women’s boutique MODISTE, which opened its doors in Nashville in 2021, Fehr has utilized her expertisein fashion, beauty, and interior design to curate a selection of gorgeous apparel in an equally stunning space. But when she selected the 2nd Avenue location that MODISTE would call home, she saw the potential to expand the brand and combine her talents in a whole new way: by opening a stunningly chic rental property, Maison Modiste.
“My love of interior design precedes the founding of MODISTE, believe it or not! I have always felt that the environment you spend significant time in should be peaceful, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing,” says Fehr. “When we acquired the space that now houses both MODISTE and Maison Modiste, we realized it was large enough to accommodate two distinct entities. While the store could have been expanded, we saw an exciting opportunity to enhance the lifestyle aspect of MODISTE. We ultimately decided on the rental space to create a unique, fashion-centric experience for our clients.”
Maison Modiste can accommodate up to four guests and features a king-sized bed and a queen sleeper sofa in this impeccably styled space. High embossed ceilings, striking light fixtures, a charming mantle, and cozy upholstered furniture make for a stay that brings a glimpse of Paris to Music City.
“I went on my first trip to Paris in April 2023, and came back incredibly inspired for the interior of both the store and the apartment. I loved the attention to detail found in Parisian architecture and interiors and tried to incorporate that as much as possible, specifically in the columns, doors, and intricate ceiling tile. I like to think of it as a little Parisian flat transported into the heart of downtown Nashville,” Fehr says.
Sleek design mixed with vintage touches bring personality to the apartment to create a space that’s fabulously chic while still being cozy enough to make guests feel perfectly at home. To accomplish this, Fehr mastered the art of combining old and new to create a one-of-a- kind space.
“While the furniture is all very new, we have many antique and vintage elements that make it feel more whimsical and historical (after all, the building is from the early 1900s),” Fehr says. “We sourced many of the vintage lighting fixtures, as well as the mantle and art, locally. My favorite element we added is probably the mantle. I love how much character it adds to the sitting space in the entryway.”
Although the French-inspired design might make you feel worlds away, the rental is conveniently located right in the heart of downtown Nashville. Just steps away from all the action while still being tucked away in a calm, string-lit alley for a peaceful night of sleep, the location is ideal for out-of-towners looking to experience all that Music City has to offer as well as locals searching for a staycation. And Fehr put just as much care into the hospitality side of Maison Modiste as she did the design to provide guests with an authentic, personalized stay.
One of the most unique offerings is the option for guests to stock their closet with clothing from MODISTE to be delivered prior to arrival. A styling session can be booked with a member of the MODISTE team, or opt to leave the shopping to the experts, and they will fill the closet with surprises. Guests have the option to purchase what they like (who doesn’t love a new vacation outfit?) and return what they don’t.
There are plenty of personalized touches beyond the closet as well. In the bathroom, you’ll find local body products and monogrammed MODISTE robes to ensure an ultra-lush stay. And the kitchen is stocked with snacks and drinks from some of Nashville’s most beloved vendors, including coffee by Honest Coffee Roasters, organic tea from High Garden, and Ranger Station toiletries.
“I don’t want anyone to feel like they’re staying in someone’s flat that happens to be unoccupied for the weekend. I want each guest to feel like this special little apartment was extremely curated and unlike anything else in Nashville. While we can’t offer room service like a hotel, we can offer a customized pre-selected closet of luxury goodies, and I don’t know many hotels that offer that,” Fehr says.
Fehr even provides guests with a digital information package featuring her personal recommendations for where to eat, sip, shop, and sightsee in Music City. She includes itineraries for a variety of ways to spend your time day to night, along with a list of her go-to amenities and professional service providers.
“We’ve created both a guide and a sample itinerary for a trip to Nashville based on what we’ve fallen in love with over the past 10 years,” Fehr says. “There’s a lot of yummy food, great coffee, and, of course, shopping mentioned. A few favorites? Coffee at Drug Store, a workout at Forza Pilates, dinner at Pelato, and drinks from Rivière Rooftop at Four Seasons.”
From the design of the space to the guest-focused offerings, Fehr has poured her time and talents into making this rental feel like home for everyone who books a stay.
“I wanted the space to feel luxurious, comfortable, and functional. If I opt for a privately owned rental over a hotel, it’s because it’s beautiful and offers many of the same amenities a hotel can provide, but with a more local and homey experience,” Fehr says. “I hope that each guest of Maison Modiste has exactly the stay they were hoping for, at the very least. We’re not trying to be the quintessential Nashville-themed rental, but that’s part of what makes it unique.”
