The husband-and-wife duo behind Eneby Home have curated a collection of high-end European antiques, personally selecting their finds from countries like Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, and France. The carefully curated collection features vintage furniture, artwork, and décor, all imported directly from European cities. We chatted with the couple to learn more about Eneby Home. - Destiny Mizell
THE LAYOUT: We built it [the 10,000 sq. ft. showroom and 5,000 sq. ft. warehouse] to give customers an experience where they view our pieces in a beautiful, comfortable space with lots of natural light. It’s not a dark warehouse or small showroom. It is intentionally large and designed to work well with our furniture.
SOURCING: In the last 19 years of buying in Europe, we have seen a lot, particularly from the16th century to the mid-20th century. We are always learning and observing and searching for the unique and special pieces. It’s a natural progression to want better, and while it’s more expensive and more difficult to do, it’s definitely more interesting.
STYLE: We buy pieces that arrive ready to sell and to be placed in the home. Some people like shiny and new, but for the most part, we like items with wear and patina. It’s a balance and mix that makes it interesting.
IN DEMAND: I think people are getting tired of catalog, newly-made furniture. Homeowners are becoming more educated and that’s driving the demand to have special pieces and to have a home that is more individual and unique, a home that represents the owners and tells a story. Our sourcing stays consistent, we are buying daily, and we keep our focus on buying what we think we will sell, with a focus on the unique.
FAVORITE COLLABORATORS: Nashville has changed a lot since we moved here. There are a lot of creatives we work with and too many to mention. A few that we love and have done a lot of work with are Buck Mason, Ralph Lauren, Todd Snyder, Sézane, Soho House, Dryden Studio, Ben Weprin/AJ Capital, Pfeffer Torode, McAlpine, Anderson Design, Lindsay Rhodes, and several others we can’t mention because of signed NDAs.
WHAT’S TRENDING: We really try to stay current with the market, but to also push it forward by bringing the best of Europe to the U.S. Right now, there’s a focus on large case goods, comfortable vintage seating, stone/marble coffee tables, and large dining tables. We work with designers nationwide who are looking for everything, including case goods, small decorative items, lighting, and art, particularly landscapes and abstracts.
FAVORITE PIECES: We love most of the items we buy — most of the items in our home are vintage/antique — so we buy for others as we buy for ourselves, and if it doesn’t sell, we want to keep it. Not a traditional or smart way to do business, maybe, but most of the time when we buy something we love, we sell it. Our inventory is constantly revolving, but one of our favorite pieces is an XXL dining table from a castle in Le Mans, France. Another unusual piece that we love is an XL landscape painting from a chateau in France. It’s huge, but would make a killer statement in the right space. We buy a lot of vintage leather seating too, and have a couple of really nice modular leather sofas in stock at the moment.
SHARE THE LOVE: We love Nashville and the designers and customers in town. When they visit our showroom, they have an appreciation for the pieces and their history. While the majority of our business is nationwide, our local clients and designers are quickly becoming our biggest champions. (enebyhome.com)
