Growing up in Kansas, Ashley Meier was raised by a father who was an entrepreneur and a mother who was a decorator. It seems only fitting, then, that Meier combined traits from both gene pools into her professional life. Fulfilling both the business and creative sides of Meier's brain, Ashley Meier Fine Linens and Interiors was born.
Located on Bandywood Drive in Green Hills, the store opened in February 2016. It offers customers a light and airy retreat from the world, with whitewashed pine floors. The mainstay of the store are its linen bedding, custom-made pillows, and towels. But, beyond that, customers can find other items needed to decorate, from candles and mirrors to custom lighting. Meier says the store targets people who want to stay in a mid-price range.
According to Meier, it's possible to achieve a great look while also being eco-friendly. To that end, she offers linens that are GOTS (Global Organic Trade Standard) certified. The GOTS certification ensures to customers that the product is organic.
'I love linen and organic cotton because they are environmentally friendly,” Meier explains. 'It's very important to me that I know how my products are produced, both in terms of impact on the environment and labor conditions.”
The store serves a variety of customersfrom individuals who are decorating their own homes to designers who shop for their clients. Reflecting Meier's own career, the Green Hills store is part retail and part interior design. The combination is logical to her. Between 2007 and 2013, she sold bedding and home décor through two different stores. In 2014, she decided to start designing and manufacturing her own products. The store, and linens and fabrics, remains her specialty.
'In designing, I start with a fabric and build around that,” Meier says. As it did with Meier's mother's quilts from her childhood, it all begins with the fabric.
