The space for the new restaurant, Sinema, was basically a shell except for the remains of a grand lobby. The Melrose Theater was constructed in 1954. All that remained was the shape of the stair treads. There was also gold mirror on one wall and the ceiling.
The space just spoke to me. It demanded a beautiful art deco-inspired handrail, terrazzo floors, and beautiful walnut wood finishes. It now feels more grand than it did when it was a movie theater. The main dining area was inspired by the images of the glamourous Hollywood actors that now grace the walls of the restaurant.
