When selecting our favorite patios, the choice was far from easy. In fact, there are at least a dozen more that were in the running. Previously, this column was reserved for our “top five” picks in a given category, but when it comes to patios, five just wasn’t enough. Despite the endless array of outdoor dining and drinking options in and around the city, we selected these 10 (plus one) as the best of the best without question—and they’re the patios we’re certain you’ll frequent as much as we plan to in the weeks ahead.
Lime
It’s where busy professionals and the music set gather for premium cocktails and people-watching. Their roster includes freshly squeezed juices in every pour, with a menu that will have you coming back for more. Never short on style or service, Lime is a home run inside and out. Literally, they open garage-style doors to encourage even indoor tables to breathe in the fresh air and energy. We’re so crazy about this place that we’ve chosen it again this year for our annual SOLO on the PATIO event in June. In our opinion, it doesn’t get any better. 1904 Broadway, (615) 340-0762. Monday-Friday 4 p.m.(happy hour), 6-11 p.m. (full menu), 12:30 a.m.-last call. Weekends, 5:30 p.m.-late.

Park Café
Ok, so sue us—it’s not a patio place on most people’s radar, but it’s definitely on ours, and for good reason. This one’s a keeper and always will be. The tasteful and always comfortable dining venue in the heart of Sylvan Park is also one of the best places to visit when you want a bit of fresh air. Mix it up outside on the lower level around the fountain while enjoying the scene, or when you really want a special night, request to be seated on the second-floor balcony—which just may be the best outdoor seating in the city. Peace and quiet served up alongside incredible food and stellar service. 4403 Murphy Rd., (615) 383-4409, parkcafenashville.com. Monday-Thursday, 5-10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 5-11 p.m.
Rumba
Rumba’s where you might want to go after hours for some lively interaction with a fun crowd and, more importantly, for the West End Avenue traffic noise. Just kidding! This hot-spot does face one of the busiest streets in town, but that’s what makes it so much fun. You’ll be so intoxicated by their list of creative cocktails and appetizers—not to mention the stylish crowd—that you’ll be oblivious to the passing cars. 3009 West End Ave., (615) 321-1350, opentable.com for reservations. Open daily at 4 p.m.
Mambu
The combination of intimate seating, vegetation and funky accents add up to a hidden treasure that we seek on sunny afternoons. You can feel at home whether you show up in full business attire or shorts and a T-shirt. We suggest you soak up the sun (or shade under their umbrellas) while tasting some of Chef Corey’s inventive fare. You may come for the inviting outdoor setting, but you’ll be back again and again for the food. 1806 Hayes St, (615) 329-1293, eatdrinkmambu.com. Monday-Thursday, 5-9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 5-10 p.m.
360 Bistro
Belle Meade and West Meade residents want to keep this their little secret, but too late—we’re letting it out. A fantastic wine list, inviting atmosphere and spacious, well-placed tables are just a few of the reasons we suggest you put this on your alfresco itinerary. Located at Spaces, this relatively small space is big on service and even larger on libations. Go once and you’ll likely become a regular. It really is that good. 6000 Highway 100, (615) 353-5604, 360bistro.com. Monday-Thursday, 5-11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 5-midnight; Sunday, 5-9 p.m.
Rippy’s
If you want to go downtown, but you’re not so keen on getting caught up in the street traffic or tourist traps, this is your spot. You can watch all the action from the second floor. This open-air bar is far from glamorous, but that’s exactly why we like it. Drinks are served in plastic cups and all names and pretenses are checked at the door. It’s the ultimate summer place to get lost and cut loose. 429 Broadway, (615) 244-7477. Sunday-Wednesday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Thursday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-midnight. Patio hours depend on weather and how busy they are.
Mafiaoza’s
Should you want a little action with your slice of pizza pie, then arrive early and get a table at this 12South institution. There’s never a dull moment on this oversized patio—and it draws everyone from extended families to college co-eds. It’s a happening hot spot from late afternoon until the wee morning hours. The diverse but dedicated crowd enjoys affordable drinks and fare served with a smile ... and stays late—really late! 2400 12th Ave. S., (615) 269-4646, Tuesday-Sunday, 4 p.m.-3 a.m.
Sambuca
Of all the patio choices in town, Sambuca’s is likely the most unusual and appealing. First, they have spectacular views of The Gulch, downtown and Midtown. Secondly, they offer two options. You can elect to dine on the first level where tables are filled with celebrities and music executives cutting deals over lingering lunches. Or, better yet, from happy hour until very late indeed you can join the beautiful people enjoying the cool couch and lounge-style seating on the second level overlooking downtown . 601 12th Ave. S., (615) 248-2888. Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. (Friday-midnight); Saturday, 5 p.m.-midnight; Sunday, 5-11 p.m.
Dan McGuinness
Is it the luck of the Irish or just our luck that just off of Music Row you can eat and drink outside every day of the week? Whether we go for lunch or dinner or just for that afternoon draft special or cider, Dan’s is easy-going, casual and, most importantly, fun. You can nosh on traditional fish and chips or opt for one of their hearty salads for lunch. After hours, we suggest taking the server’s suggestions on the best beer options in town. Either way, this patio rocks day and night! 1538 Demonbreun St., (615) 252-1991, danmcguinesspub.com. Monday-Thursday: 11 a.m.-1:30 a.m. or later; Friday, 11 a.m.-3 a.m.; Saturday, noon-3 a.m.; Sunday, noon-1:30 a.m.
Watermark
Gulch favorite Watermark is the place we’d suggest going when you want to celebrate. That could involve a proposal, closing a client deal or simply relishing a gourmet meal with your favorite people (or person) under the stars. Hands down, this is the most elegant patio on our list. It’s where you’ll want to order a bottle of wine, sample the menu and spend some time. The food, service and views of downtown make it hard to go home. 507 12th Ave S., (615) 254-2000, watermark-restaurant.com. Monday-Thursday, 5:30–9:30 p.m. (bar opens at 5 p.m.); Friday and Saturday, 5:30-10 p.m. (bar opens at 5 p.m.).
Plus One. Rumours East
Unlike many of the patios listed above, the Rumours East offering is quite secluded and invitingly sedate. There’s no observing the hustle and bustle of urban Nashville from this lush and pleasant space, which can be a good thing. The highlights of the patio are a pergola and a free-standing fireplace. 1113 Woodland St., (615) 262-5346, RumoursEast.com Tuesday-Sunday, 5 p.m.-midnight.
