In these uncertain times, what is more comforting and sustaining a gift than food? Particularly simple, rustic fare crafted with care by artisans whose passion for their product is matched by their pride in its quality. In 1992, Bread & Company installed a $100,000 French oven in a tiny storefront in Belle Meade, and educated Nashville on the wide world beyond Bunny Bread. In the nearly 17 years since, Bread & Company added four new locations and expanded its menu to cover breakfast, lunch, dinner and all hours in between. In developing a new line of gift boxes and baskets, it was only natural that this home-grown success story would seek to support other local entrepreneurs.
John Clay—who serves as president of the company his mother Anne co-founded---invited Bob Bernstein, founder of Bongo Java Roasting Company; Brett Corrieri, chef and owner of Corrieri’s Formaggeria; and childhood friend Sarah Scarborough, who recently launched Partners Tea Company, hand-blended artisan and organic teas, to contribute their unique products to the Bread and Company gift line.
The Babka Java invites you to start your morning with a cup of Bread and Company Blend coffee roasted by Bongo Java and a loaf (well, maybe just a slice) of chocolate or cinnamon babka. The Crisps and Coffee pairs a bag of B&C Blend with a cellophane package of what is sure to be the hottest thing to come out of Bread & Company since Perrin’ Dressing---Cranberry Pecan Crisps, skinny toasted-crisp slices of their delectable signature bread.
Coffee not your cup of tea? The Tea Party includes two canisters of specialty Partners Tea, a loaf of breakfast bread and a jar of locally collected Tennessee honey with an Acacia wooden dipper.
Clay—who played football for Alabama’s—teamed up with Corierri to create some some spreads suitable for a casual tailgate party or sophisticated soiree. The Ploughman’s Lunch, for instance, packs a loaf of Farm Bread, Busetto Salami with herbs, Dorsett Cheddar Cheese, Caramelized Walnuts, Grainy Dijon Mustard, cutting board and fiddle bow knife into a wooden crate. The European Vacation delivers the tastes of Italy, France and Spain—no passport needed—via Prosciutto Di Parma, Serrano Ham, Spanish Chorizo, Manchego cheese, Goat Cheese, Dorsett Cheddar Cheese, Truffle Salt, Mixed Olives, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, three loaves of bread, cutting board, knife and a partridge in a pear tree. Okay, no partridge, but everything else.
Also available through the gift line are long-time B&C staples like scones, Pecan Danish Ring, Highlander cake, Bundt Cake, cookie sampler, Cinnamon Roll Coffee Cake, granola and seasonal fave Italian Panettone.
All Bread & Company Gifts can be viewed and ordered online at www.breadandcompany.com and can be delivered locally or shipped nationally and even internationally. Perhaps B&C fans Nicole and Keith Urban will send a taste of Nashville down under!
